Hiking ENCI quarry
During this activity, you will explore the ENCI quarry in Sint-Pietersberg together with the forest ranger. This quarry was created by the extraction of limestone by the First Dutch Cement Industry. After limestone extraction stopped in 2018, nature had a chance to return. With the support of Natuurmonumenten, special and authentic nature has developed here, unique to the Netherlands. You will find valleys, plateaus, limestone grass slopes and water features; everything that characterises the South Limburg hill country. Spot the protected southern shore dragonfly and admire rare orchids. Discover the history of the quarry and let your mind wander by the clear water.
Walk with the forest ranger
Normally, this nature reserve is closed to hikers. But with guidance from the forest ranger, you can now experience the powerful and lush nature, and see how it is slowly reclaiming its place after human influences. A tip: this activity is even more fun when you undertake it together with friends or family.
